As a pastor, advocate, community leader, and former Portland Public School board member, Herman has worked closely with families, educators, nonprofit organizations, and community partners to address some of the most pressing challenges facing our region. Through this work, he has seen firsthand the impact that strong leadership and coordinated systems can have on improving people’s lives.
Herman believes that the government should work the same way strong communities do — with collaboration, accountability, and a clear focus on results.
Multnomah County faces serious challenges today. Housing instability, public safety concerns, and economic hardship are affecting families across the county. Herman believes these issues are connected and must be addressed through practical leadership that focuses on solutions and measurable outcomes.
By aligning housing, safety, and economic opportunity, Herman is committed to helping Multnomah County move forward with stronger systems and stronger communities.
Leadership rooted in Service
Herman Greene has dedicated his life to serving others and strengthening the communities around him. As the Senior Pastor of Abundant Life PDX, he has helped lead initiatives that support families, strengthen youth programs, and build meaningful partnerships across the community. Through his work in ministry and community leadership, Herman has brought people together around shared solutions and common goals.
Herman’s commitment to public service also includes serving on the board of Portland Public Schools, one of the largest school districts in Oregon. In that role, he worked alongside educators, families, and community leaders to help guide policy decisions impacting thousands of students and families across the district.
His experience in both community leadership and public service has given Herman a deep understanding of how large systems operate — from budgeting and oversight to ensuring programs deliver meaningful outcomes for the people they serve.
These experiences continue to shape Herman’s approach to leadership today: listen to the community, work collaboratively, focus on solutions, and hold systems accountable for results.

I’m running for Multnomah County Commissioner because our communities deserve leadership focused on real solutions and measurable results.
Through my work as a pastor, community leader, and public servant on the Portland Public Schools Board, I’ve seen both the strength of our communities and the challenges many families face every day.
Housing stability, public safety, and economic opportunity are deeply connected. Solving these challenges requires leadership that brings people together and focuses on practical solutions that work.
I believe we can build stronger systems, stronger communities, and a county that works better for everyone.
